We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join the Environmental Planning and Management (EPM) Division as a Biologist based in Lloydminster, Alberta. This position will require both field and office work.

Requirements:

You will carry out your duties in consultation with the Manager/Project Manager, EPM on all matters.

The primary duties will be focused on pre-development baseline environmental assessments and project permitting/approvals. You will draft, review and submit all daily field reports, diagrams, site observations as well as make site recommendations. You will also be responsible for technical reporting and support for regulatory permits applications. The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring the quality, cost efficiency and timeliness of deliverables.

Candidates must be prepared to work in a multidisciplinary, fast paced project team environment and able to undertake a variety of project related tasks.

You will be supported by the entire organization which consists of a dynamic team of Professional Engineers, Biologists, Chemists and Agrologists, technical administrators, business development professionals, and an in-house IT department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A University Degree or College Diploma from a recognized institution – specializing in environmental science, biology, ecology, or related specialization
  • Professional Designation would be considered an asset (e.g. P.Biol, P.Ag.)
  • A minimum of 3 years' direct experience in the environmental consulting industry (Oil and Gas, Energy, and Utilities)
  • Environmental inspection and monitoring experience for major linear development projects in Alberta (AB), Saskatchewan (SK), or British Columbia (BC);
  • Ability to lead field crews and design surveys for Alberta/Saskatchewan/BC-based wildlife following applicable Species Detection Protocols
  • Experience with wildlife data management, analysis and interpretation, and determination of appropriate mitigation measures
  • Experience completing wetland assessments including identification, classification, and delineation following appropriate protocols for private and public lands
  • Experience completing vegetation inventories in the grassland subregions of Alberta
  • Experience completing environmental site assessments and soil sampling
  • Excellent technical writing skills and experience writing technical reports
  • Experience with common GIS platforms
  • Ability to take initiative, ownership and work independently with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel to remote locations, potentially for extended periods of time
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Experience building relationships with clients, regulators, and stakeholders
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to travel to remote locations, potentially for extended periods of time
  • Confident, capable, and productive in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced project team environment
  • Ability to take initiative, ownership, and work independently with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Proven record of safe work and a safety-first attitude

  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail

In addition to the above experience, the following would be considered an asset:

  • Experience with renewable power generation (i.e. wind and solar) post-construction wildlife monitoring programs in Alberta and/or Saskatchewan
  • Experience on a large-scale project-specific seasonal program (e.g. linear developments or facilities)
  • Experience completing rare plant surveys in Alberta and/or Saskatchewan and familiarity with sensitive plant communities (i.e. native grassland)
  • Certified inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CAN-CISEC)
