Brunel has an exciting opportunity for a Chief Electrical Engineer with our client who is a leading mining company in Phoenix, AZ.

This position reports to the Director of Engineering and the primary purpose is to technically review and optimize engineering designs either developed by company appointed engineering consultants through different project stages or provide engineering solutions to current operating sites.

Job Scope

Nature of work: Works on complex issues and implements solutions and provides guidance to the contractors, consultants and owners team

Level of interaction: Often collaborates with managers and/or functional or site leaders and interacts with external colleagues.

Autonomy/decision making: Works under moderate supervision and has some latitude to set objectives, priorities and timelines that may impact department or individual work group

Budgetary responsibility: Has no budgetary responsibility

Managerial responsibility: Manages a specific program or project and may supervise people.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as Electrical Engineering subject matter expert (SME) on large/complex engineering and construction projects, including expansions or modifications to existing facilities.
  • Supervise, monitor, and develop engineering standards and practices in the respective discipline.
  • Supervise and manage engineering consultants and vendors to ensure scopes are properly established and that deliverables are met throughout all phases of engineering, in a timely and cost-conscious manner.
  • Review technical designs and calculations and perform independent checks/calculations to validate the design
  • Validate electrical MTO’s and perform independent checks
  • Supervise, investigate and develop appropriate recommendations regarding planned engineering projects.
  • Provide guidance and counsel to the management team on applicable programs, practices and existing/proposed local, state and federal regulations.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and budgeting efforts for designated engineering areas.



  • Bachelor’s degree in an Electrical Engineering discipline and fifteen (15) years of experience in electrical engineering or related scientific field, OR
  • Master’s degree in an Electrical Engineering discipline and ten (10) years of experience in electrical engineering

Language Skills, Certifications and/or Training

  • Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of electrical engineering
  • Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
  • Expertise and knowledge of specialized electrical design software
  • Skilled in managing large/complex engineering projects
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in electrical engineering as it relates to mining and associated processes, such as crushing systems, conveying systems, pumping systems, mineral processing equipment, etc.
  • Design Experience working on large capital projects
  • Operational experience in mineral processing plants
  • Advanced Electrical Engineering degree and/or Professional Engineering (PE) Certification



  • $800+/day
