About this role

Brunel is currently searching for a Chief Mechanical Engineer for a long-term contract position working for our client in the mining industry. This is a remote position with business travel to Arizona.

  • Serve as Mechanical Engineering subject matter expert (SME) on large/complex engineering and construction projects, including expansions or modifications to existing facilities.
  • Supervise, monitor, and develop engineering standards and practices in the respective discipline.
  • Supervise and manage engineering consultants and vendors to ensure scopes are properly established and that deliverables are met throughout all phases of engineering, in a timely and cost-conscious manner.
  • Supervise, investigate and develop appropriate recommendations regarding planned engineering projects.
  • Provide guidance and counsel to the management team on applicable programs, practices and existing/proposed local, state and federal regulations.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and budgeting efforts for designated engineering areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Mechanical Engineering discipline and fifteen (15) years of experience in mechanical engineering or related scientific field, OR
  • Master’s degree in a Mechanical Engineering discipline and ten (10) years of experience in mechanical engineering
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of mechanical engineering
  • Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
  • Expertise and knowledge of specialized mechanical and piping design software
  • Skilled in managing large/complex engineering projects
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
