About this role: Manager Conservation & Management Planning

We are currently recruiting for our client in Saudi Arabia, Neom. “Saudi Arabia is building a futuristic mega-city called Neom deep in a desert bordering the Red Sea. The state has pledged at least $500 billion to make it happen, and is soliciting further investment. Neom is a planned cross-border city in the Tabuk Province of northwestern Saudi Arabia. It is planned to incorporate smart city technologies and also function as a tourist destination.

  • Position: Manager, Conservation and Planning;
  • Sector: Land Conservation;
  • Role Purpose;
  • To manage our client's Nature Region Land Conservation Planning, including;
  • Client's Nature Region-wide (Land) conservation planning for rewilding, regreening, recharging aquifers initiatives;
  • Coordinating the Client's Nature Region Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan development and implementation;
  • Coordinating conservation planning and management plan development and implementation for specific terrestrial conservation area zones;
  • Coordinating the evaluation of Land Use proposals in the Nature Region;
  • Leading the development of the land use and activity permit process for the Nature Region;
  • Working with Nature Region team to plan and implement rewilding, regreening, habitat restoration, and recharging aquifer initiatives;
  • Plan and coordinate the long-term ecological monitoring program for client's Nature Region;
  • Contribute as needed to Nature Region conservation and management activities.

  • 20 years+ experience in conservation planning, including the development of biodiversity strategies and action plans, ecoregion conservation strategies, and protected area networks;
  • 20 years+ experience in developing and implementing Protected Area Management Plans;
  • Experience in evaluating climate change impacts and integrating adaptation strategies into conservation management and planning;
  • 20 years+ experience with effectively mitigating development impacts on biodiversity and ecosystems;
  • 20 years+ experience in developing and implementing species conservation and recovery plans for endangered species, including ungulates and larger carnivores;
  • 15 years+ experience with evaluating and enhancing ecological connectivity at local and regional scales;
  • 20 years+ experience with GIS applications for conservation spatial modeling and planning;
  • 15+ years of experience in evaluating conservation and development proposals in terms of benefits, costs, and impacts;
  • 20+ years of experience working with government agencies, scientists, protected area managers;
  • Experience with migratory species issues and conservation management, including regional networks of Flyway sites for migratory birds;
  • Strong leadership skills and proven ability to simultaneously manage a wide number of different functional areas and multiple staff;
  • A publication record in peer-reviewed technical conservation/ecology/biology journals exceeding 60 publications;
  • Have good skills in project management including proposals, scope of work, managing contractors, budgeting, projections, reporting, and communications;
  • A creative and agile approach to workplace challenges, able to adapt and find solutions to rapidly changing conditions and challenges;
  • A proven ability to motivate staff and provide appropriate developmental opportunities that increase operational performance.
