About this role: Senior Terrestrial Biologist

The Senior Terrestrial Biologist should have a track record of managing and leading large and complex projects, demonstrate consistency in the level of work with an extensive technical background in arid ecology. The GCC experience is preferred. The position would require but is not limited to the below:

  • Planning and managing the implementation of studies and assessments associated with specific biological work scopes associated with licensing and permitting requirements if applicable;
  • Performing all the work in accordance with COMPANY policies and practices;
  • Providing timely input to projects' schedules identifying known or likely requirements for seasonal biological fieldwork and seasonal work constraints due to environmental issues;
  • Planning scope, schedules, and budgets for all surveys, monitoring, and compliance work to meet NEV regulatory requirements;
  • Establishing a proper channel of coordination and communication between the team to track the workflow and meet all the deadlines;
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to meet COMPANY goals and objectives while maintaining compliance with the NEV department specifically and COMPANY in general;
  • Working closely with other departments to develop appropriate ecological planning and mitigation strategies;
  • Review of ecological surveys and studies conducted by others;
  • Lead, participate and manage terrestrial ecological surveys in accordance with NEV standards and guidelines and best industry practice;
  • Develop and participate in drafting Request for Proposals for ecology surveys relating to fauna, flora, avifauna within the COMPANY area;
  • Preparing and developing ecological technical guidelines for surveys to be conducted within the COMPANY area;
  • Providing guidance and oversight for the preparation/collection of needed data to support the development of ecological baseline reports;
  • Providing technical expertise for responses to other parties’ comments or requests for data;
  • Provides strategic ecological guidance to consultants, other technical staff in the department, and contractors;
  • Develops project biodiversity survey plans;
  • Directing and/or conducting technical work, as required to meet COMPANY’s goals, using the highest standards of scientific investigation and analysis;
  • Designing and/or collaborating in the technical studies; hence identifying and analyzing project impacts; developing and recommending protection, mitigation, and enhancement measures relating to ecology components;
  • Managing all the ecological compliance requirements by preparing and/ or reviewing the technical reports and documents and resolving all related matters;
  • Ensuring all the technical work meets the standards required by COMPANY guidelines, policies, and guidelines on natural resources management and protection;
  • Providing technical quality assurance for contract work;
  • Supporting a consistent adherence to technical and professional standards in the performance of all ecology work conducted by and for NEV;
  • Managing third parties by developing the technical scope of work and submitting requests for proposals, conducting proposal evaluations and selection processes, and providing the technical review.

The role is expected to proactively communicate ecological values around COMPANY and the integration of development and nature to Inspire and Inform the COMPANY community.



The ideal candidate fits the below profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Horticulture, Botany Environmental Biology or related sciences. Master’s degree or Ph.D. are preferred;
  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience across terrestrial or arid ecology;
  • Experience in the GCC is preferred and preferably experience in KSA;
  • Strong team building and management;
  • Strong facilitation and organization skills;
  • Preferably the ability to conduct fieldwork if required;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Proficient fluency in English is essential, Arabic is a plus.
