Brunel is currently searching for a Contract Site Safety Manager for a contract opportunity located near Phoenix, AZ for a long-term mining project.

The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment and compliance with regulatory laws at assigned facilities as well as company safety standards.

  • Audit processes and facilities within area(s) of responsibility to ensure the Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) is in compliance with company standards as well as all applicable local, national and business requirements.
  • Evaluate contractor field activities, safety program and compliance, address potential violations with inspectors, and ensure documentation of all potential violations are completed as requested.
  • Develop processes necessary to continuously improve the HSMS and ensure compliance and conformance with all legal, business, and site requirements.
  • Coordinate and Manage Project Safety Program
  • Works in field and office on project safety program issues, implements solutions through individual team and project effort but may delegate more routing tasks to others.
  • Conducts Safety Orientation, visit work sites and distributes literature to implement and promote health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate Safety Training venues annually to ensure presentation materials are pertinent, meet regulatory requirements, and are presented in a professional manner. Oversee the development of new safety training programs as required for all onsite.
  • Collaborates mostly with peers in the same functional area and/or department and has high external interaction. In addition will work closely with all site safety personnel.
  • Works under minimal supervision and has substantial latitude to set objectives, priorities and timelines that may impact department or individual work group
  • Manages elements of the HSMS and supervise safety staff including training.
  • Analyze and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports and regulatory documents to identify potential impacts on site
  • Present information and respond to Health and Safety questions or concerns from employees, managers and the general public.
  • Respond to employees Health and Safety inquiries, regulatory complaints and/or community groups.
  • Manage and implement special projects as assigned

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of related experience in Construction Health and Safety.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions; Skilled in following safety.
  • Experience with managing safety on heavy industrial construction projects.
  • Understanding of safety reporting requirements on large heavy industrial construction projects
    • Experience with mega projects (values exceeding US$ 1.0 billion), especially large mineral processing projects.
    • Prior EPCM experience preferred with field based safety management experience.
    • Experience in setting performance KPI’s and tracking on a day to day basis
    • Experience in field roles in all disciplines
    • Working as a team member (Client, EPCM & Contractors)
  • Fluent in English
  • MUST be eligible to work in the U.S. for any employer without sponsorship
